Earlier today, an Air New Zealand Boeing 787-9 departed from Christchurch for a very special flight. It was one of Air New Zealand's Koru Care flights. In collaboration with Koru Care, a charity for children in New Zealand, Air New Zealand launched special flights that will allow children with disabilities to travel around the world! This has been going on for 35 years.
Sadly, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most of such flights have been cancelled or put on hold. However, due to the easing of restrictions in New Zealand, these flights started to resume, but they only flew around the country.
As mentioned earlier, the first of these such flights departed today on Air New Zealand flight NZ4376 from Christchurch. The flight was operated using an all-black Boeing 787-9 with registration ZK-NZE. The age of the aircraft is 7 years old and was delivered to the airline in June 2014. There were 50 children onboard the flight.
Also, another fact that makes today's flight special is that when the flight was near New Plymouth, New Zealand, the pilots drew a Kiwi bird in the sky!
