In 2020, Lufthansa announced that they were planning to create a new airline. The airline was to be named "Ocean" and would fly long-haul leisure flights. The airline name would then be known as Eurowings Discover, named after Lufthansa's subsidiary, Eurowings.

The airline would be relying on Airbus A330s and A320s for their fleet. The first Eurowings Discover flight will be from Frankfurt to Zanzibar via Mombasa, Kenya on July 24th. However, the airline is not set to just focus on one region and has plans for many other destinations such as Punta Cana and Las Vegas.

Here is a statement by Eurowings Discover regarding their launch:

“The timing could not be better. People can finally travel again and we are all set to fly them to the world’s most beautiful destinations,”
“We have built an airline in just one year – an ambitious goal that we have achieved with the great support from the entire Lufthansa Group, a motivated team and in close cooperation with the German Federal Aviation Authority. We wish to express our sincere gratitude to everyone.”
