Many of you have been asking: Did Airbus, one of the world's most famous airplane manufacturers ever fail? Well, the answer is yes! How you may ask? Well, it all started in 1967 when Airbus was making their first-ever aircraft, the Airbus A300. Airbus was going to make a 2-engine somewhat efficient airplane (at the time). Many people did not believe in the idea as Boeing was already dominating the market with their Boeing 707, 727, and the soon to come 747. Development was going not so good as they only had orders from European airlines such as British Airways or Lufthansa. With the lack of orders, Airbus was nearly bankrupt! After much convincing, American based airlines still did not want to purchase the airplane because of one minor issue: ETOPS. ETOPS bans twin-engine planes from flying across the Atlantic (or 30 minutes away from a diversion airport) but luckily, a miracle happened. The A300 was the first EVER plane to be ETOPS certified for crossing the Atlantic! After that and the first commercial flight in 1983, orders started flowing in like crazy which saved Airbus from its bankruptcy! The A300 was a huge success! In case you were wondering, this all was a true story. Image a world without Airbus!
