Pegasfly 767 Runway Excursion

Earlier yesterday, a Pegasfly 767 slipped off the runway while landing at Simferopol Airport in Russia. The aircraft came to a stop 2,310 meters after the runway, with the landing gear landing in soft ground. No injuries were reported, and all 284 passengers disembarked safely.

The aircraft in question is VP-BMC, a 21.9-year-old Boeing 767-300 and was delivered to Pegasfly in February 2014, after TWA, American Airlines, Air China, GMG Airlines and Nordwind Airlines operated the jet. It was operating flight E0123 from Moscow (SVO) to Simferopol (SIP) at the time, which lasted around 2 hours.

What caused this incident? It is likely that the reason was due to Hydroplaning (Aircraft skidding due to wet surface) as 3 mm of surface water was discovered on the runway after the incident. Usually, when the runway is wet, pilots try to make the landing hard, to increase friction. However, it seems like it did not work this time around.

Also, this very aircraft was involved in a bird strike at the very same airport in 2015.
