What is the 787 Dreamliner?
The 787 Dreamliner is a very fuel efficient airplane on the market but it had many delays. The 787 Dreamliner was announced on January 29 2003 as the 7E7. The plane was focused on efficiency. The aircraft came out in 3 variants: The 787-8, 787-9 and 787-10.
When did they enter into service, how many passengers can it fit and what is the range?
The 787-8 seats 242 passengers over a range of 7355nmi and first entered in service with ANA on October 26 2011, 3 years later than expected due to the issues with the Rolls Royce Trent-100 Engines. The 787-9 seats 290 passengers over 7635nmi and entered into service with ANA on August 7 2014. The 787-10 seats 330 passengers over 6430nmi and entered into service with Singapore Airlines on April 3 2018.
Why is the 787 so efficient?
The 787 is efficient because it is not made of aluminium like other planes, it is made of carbon fibre which is as strong as aluminium and its also 50% lighter than aluminium. The engine that the 787 uses is also special as it has a high bypass ratio which makes the plane more fuel efficient.
