After looking at this title, you may ask me, what in the world is the Boeing 2707? Is it a fake plane that I made up? The answer is no. You see, when Britain and France announced the Concorde, the Americans were jealous as they were the leaders in air travel and they did not want to lose their title so they decided to make a competition where all the major airplane creators would participate in to come up with a design for a supersonic transport that was way better and faster than the Concorde and as Boeing was the leader of air transport in Europe, they were selected. Their plan was to make a supersonic airplane that can fly as fast as Mach 3, less sonic boom, and reduced impact on the earth's ozone layer to help the environment as these were some of the major public concerns.
So, From January 1st, 1967, when Boeing won the competition, they started work but did not meet their deadline, and sooner or later, the Concorde was released and well, many of us know, it did not work out that well and because of that, there were project funding cuts and obviously, the idea was scrapped
Now, with the sad failure of the Concorde, is there a future for supersonic travel? Probably.
Why you may ask? I wrote an article about it a week ago so check it out for more info:
