Before we start, The Boeing 797 has not been announced yet and this article is based on Boeing concepts and speculations.
Well, it has been a while since Boeing has released a new aircraft and there has been a lot of speculation going around that Boeing is making a brand new plane called the NMA (New Midsize Aircraft) as a replacement for the Boeing 757 as many airlines were asking for it. The airplane would have a 5000nmi range and could fit 225-275 passengers.
The airplane started as a concept airliner by Boeing in 2015 and after some research, Boeing had some discussions with customers of the aircraft (if it were released) and determined that there was enough demand to develop an all-new jet airliner, indirectly confirming the 797 project.
Due to COVID-19, Boeing put the plans on hold and decided to re-work some key features the plane will have and will be taking a new approach to future projects. The estimated release (unofficially) of the Boeing 797 is somewhere between 2027-2035. Once again, none of this is confirmed and these are just ideas Boeing had but it seems very likely that the Boeing 797 will come in the near future.
Will the Boeing 797 ever be a thing? Comment below 😀
