The future of air travel- Post Covid-19

Updated: Jul 18, 2020

  1. The retirement of 4 engine aircraft

Almost every airline in the world is low on cash. Due to this, they will be retiring their less efficient 4 engine aircraft such as the Boeing 747 or the Airbus A380. AirFrance has announced their retirement all of their A380's immediately early last month and today, British Airways retired all of their 747's! The CEO of Qatar Airways also announced that they will not be using their A380's until at least 2022

2. No more First Class

With removal of most A380s and B747s from active flying, airlines are using their smaller, more fuel efficient, aircraft; with A350s and B787s doing the majority of long haul flying. As a result, there is less First Class inventory at the moment. The current demand for First Class is also low. Most airlines are only offering 2 class aircraft at the moment. Etihad is removing their First Class inventory completely for this year.

3. Snack boxes instead of food

Food will now be served in snack boxes instead of proper courses and meals to minimise contact and contamination. Almost all the airlines in the world are doing this except for Singapore Airlines. Singapore Airlines claimed that they will have the same quality of food onboard and their food will not be in a snack box but with extra precautions in place.

In 2020, flying will not be as fun as before and will become more of a necessity.
