The 737 MAX. Whenever you think about it, all you can hear are the cries of the families who lost someone onboard the two fatal flights- Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302. Thankfully, all the issues that resulted in these horrible accidents have been resolved, resulting in the ungrounding of the 737 MAX late last year.
6 weeks ago, Turkish Airlines started to unground their 737 MAX 8 Fleet, which was the aircraft involved in both crashes. Due to the smooth re-entering of the 737 MAX 8 into the aircraft, today, Turkish Airlines decided to unground their only Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft. As of now, Turkish Airlines is still awaiting 9 other MAX 9 aircraft.
The MAX 9 that Turkish Airlines ungrounded today is registered as TC-LYA and is a 2.3-year-old 737 MAX 9. According to data from planespotters.net, the aircraft entered into service with Turkish Airlines on 5 March 2019. Subsequently, due to the grounding of the 737 MAX, the aircraft was put into storage in Istanbul on 13 March 2019, just a mere 8 days after the aircraft entered service. The airplane was taken out of storage on 25 May 2021 and re-entered service today.
Do you think Turkish Airlines made the right choice?
